Book Title: Big Little Lies
Author: Liane Moriarty
Published By: Berkley on July 29th, 2014
**It seems as though my last three book reviews are all tied to the same type of genre being domestic abuse. This is a weird coincidence and not at all a theme I am trying to create.**
OMG, if you haven’t picked up a copy of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies you need to drive to your nearest book store or Target/Walmart and pick this up immediately! I read this in a day.. literally ONE day. BLL is one of those books where you keep saying, “One more chapter..” until its 2 am and you are finished and now counting the hours you have left to sleep until you have to wake up for work the next day. (I may or may not have done this..)
What helped me the most in understanding the book was knowing who played the character is the HBO series that was created for this book. So for those of you who don’t know let me tell you who plays who. Reese Witherspoon plays Madeline, Celeste is played by Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley as Jane. I loved this book for so many reasons but mostly because it kept me guessing up until the last couple chapters. I talk to my boyfriend (Colton) about all the books I’m reading to try to help me solve it before I get to the end and this one had us all the way to the end. This book deserves nothing less than 5 stars and I would recommend to anyone!!
** For those who haven’t read, spoilers in the following paragraphs**
I wish I could have written a spoiler free review but I just loved BLL and would love discussions about it so that I know your guy’s thoughts and opinions on this book. A couple chapters in and most of the book I totally thought this was going to be about Ziggy (Jane’s son) being a weird/ kid killer. I was way off (maybe next book idea, hmm) but I am so glad it wasn’t because the fact that the author took the most caring and innocent (although a little odd) character and made her the killer… I was SHOOK. I mean honestly, did anyone see that coming? I thought it was going to be Madeline because she was a fireball of a woman but Bonnie? Girl, yes! Liane Moriarty hit it out of the park with this book. I mean why else would it be turned into a short series on HBO, amiright? Can’t wait to pick another one of her books and let you guys know what I think!!
Book Title: It Ends With Us
Author: Colleen Hoover
Published By: Atria Books on August 2nd, 2016
Over the last six months Colleen Hoover has made it into my top three favorite authors. She is currently the queen of my bookshelf especially after reading this book! You can tell how much writing this book meant to CoHo after reading the Note / Acknowledgement at the end and if you don’t feel the need to cry after reading it all you probably aren’t human.
My initial thoughts were that the main character Lily was going to be the one with issues to tear them apart and while I wasn’t necessarily wrong, I definitely wasn’t right. this was such a good read for many reasons and I can’t say much without revealing a couple spoilers so I will just leave it at this; this book will make you view domestic violence victims in a whole new light as well as seeing the abusers thought process on the traumatic event that may have happened that causes them to think that what they are doing is okay. This is a must read!! (along with any other Colleen Hoover book)

Book Title: Behind Her Eyes
Author: Sarah Pinborough
Published By: Flatiron Books on January 31st, 2017
This book took me exactly one day to finish. I literally couldn’t put it down!! Before choosing this book as my Book of the Month choice I did a lot of spoiler free research on it. Almost everything that I had read said that there a huge OMG/WTF moment at the end and boy, were they right!
I have to say I was very disappointed at the end of this book because I felt as though the author gave up and kinda just said, “Ok.. I’m tired of writing. BOOM, ending.” It was sudden and way to far fetched for me to ever want to pick up and read again. With a new ending this book would have been a 5 star rating but those last couple chapters absolutely destroyed a beautiful book.
When first reading this book you will think that it’s going to be about domestic violence, which always makes a good mystery/thriller novel, but be careful who you choose to take sides with in this book because it will keep you on your toes and always guessing. No matter if you love the ending or you throw your book across the room because you are angry (guilty) this book will be in the back of your thoughts for weeks after reading it. It is a must read just for the detail and character build up and I would recommend that anyone who likes to read mystery/thriller novels should go their nearest library or bookstore and read/buy this immediately. I will definitely be picking up another one of her books just for her writing style and ability to make her characters so realistic!
